Canadians we love: Eugene Levy
Occupation: Actor
Date of Birth: December 17, 1946
Place of Birth: Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Notable Contributions to the world:
- Too many great SCTV characters to mention, but how about funnyman Bobby Bittman, polka legend Stan Schmenge, and news anchor Earl Camembert for a start (“One On the Town with Earl Camembert: Singles Bars”)
- Gerry Fleck, two left footed husband of Cookie in Best of Show
- Cock eyed Dr. Allen Pearl in Waiting for Guffman. Gotta love those Christopher Guest movies.
- and we’ll admit he was pretty funny as the Dad in that pie sex movie, which shall remain nameless.
On the Stratford Festival:
“I tried Lear, it would probably still turn out funny.” The Canadian Jewish News, 20 Kislev 5769.
Little Known Fact: Levy co-starred in this ridiculous thing we found recently, which appears to be the original character that he later recycled in A Mighty Wind.
Why we love him: His Alex Trebel on SCTV’s Half Wits. (Yes, that’s Martin Short, but watch the vid, Levy rules!)
